BlackBird 22: Engine Our boats come with Crusader power. We chose Crusader because of their industry wide reputation as the largest supplier of gasoline powered marine engines in the world.
The engine we use is a GM vortec V8, the same one that powers the legendary Corvette. Not only is this engine smooth and powerful, it is the most economical engine we tested. The transmission is a Hirth-ZF unit with a 1.3 to 1 gear reduction, providing 500 lb.ft. of torque at the propeller. At 375HP this motor has propelled one of our prototypes to over 60 mph.
